Terms of Use

tellyowl is run by Jobventure Pty Ltd (ABN 57 660 814 675), 121 King St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia ("we", "us"). These terms are the agreement between you and us. By creating an account you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use tellyowl.

The short version

tellyowl is for parents and carers aged 18 or over.
You choose what your kid watches. The videos come from YouTube, and YouTube's terms apply to them.
Watching is always free. Plus pays for grown-up extras. Cancel anytime, and nothing is removed when it ends.

1. What tellyowl is

tellyowl shows your kid the YouTube playlists you choose, and nothing else: no feed, no search, no recommendations, no comments. You save videos to a playlist in YouTube, and they appear in a private app for your kid. Videos play in YouTube's own player.

2. Who can use it

You must be 18 or over to create an account.
One account is for one family. You can set up an app for each kid in your care.
Kids don't have accounts. They use the kid app through the link you give them, and you're responsible for how it's used in your family.

3. YouTube

tellyowl uses YouTube API Services. By using tellyowl, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.

The videos belong to their creators and are served by YouTube. We don't make, host or review them.
YouTube may show ads in its player. We don't block them, and we don't promise an ad-free experience.
A video or playlist can become unavailable at any time, for example if its owner makes it private or YouTube removes it. We can't promise that any video stays available.
tellyowl isn't made, endorsed or sponsored by YouTube or Google.

4. You choose what your kid watches

Your kid sees the playlists you add and the lists you approve from other families. We leave out videos YouTube marks as age-restricted, but we don't review videos. Whether a video suits your kid is your call.
Keep your kid's link private: anyone with it can open the kid app. If it gets out, rotate it from your dashboard and the old link stops working.
Controls (daily limit, bedtime, pause) work inside your kid's app only. They don't reach YouTube or other apps and websites, and they don't replace supervision. We recommend also blocking the YouTube app and website on your kid's device. Block YouTube on your dashboard shows how, with Screen Time or Family Link.

You can share your lists, and let your kid share them. Anyone with a share link sees a preview of the list: its YouTube title, its channels and its first few videos. The preview never shows your kid's name or your email.
Only share lists that suit kids. Families who add your list see every video in it, including ones you add later.
Stop sharing turns the link off. Families who already added the list keep it, with updates.
If a shared list is reported, or we think it isn't suitable for kids, we may stop it being shared and remove it from every family's app.

6. Free and Plus

tellyowl is free, and watching is always free. Every plan gets the full kid app, and no plan limits what your kid can watch.
Plus is a subscription for grown-up extras: more kids and lists, new-video notifications, watch history and controls. The pricing page shows what each plan includes, including fair-use limits.
Plus renews every month or year until you cancel. You see the price in your currency before you pay, and it includes any tax we have to charge. Payments are handled by Stripe.
Cancel anytime in Account → Manage billing. Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
When Plus ends, nothing is deleted and your kid's app keeps working. The Plus extras switch off, and you can't add more than the free plan allows.
Refunds: if you're not happy, email us within 14 days of your first Plus payment and we'll refund it in full. Otherwise payments aren't refundable, except where the law says they are.
If we change the price of Plus, we'll email you at least 30 days before it affects you, so you can cancel first.

7. Using tellyowl fairly

Please don't:

use tellyowl for anything unlawful, or to share lists that aren't suitable for kids;
try to get into accounts or kid apps that aren't yours;
scrape, overload or interfere with tellyowl, or use bots or scripts on it;
resell tellyowl or use it commercially without our written permission.

8. Your content and ours

Your lists, kids' names and settings are yours. You let us store and use them to run tellyowl for you, and to show the lists you share to the people you share them with.
tellyowl's app, design and name belong to us. Videos, thumbnails and titles belong to their owners.

9. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Account. It happens straight away: your kids' apps stop working, any Plus subscription is cancelled, and your data is deleted as the Privacy Policy describes.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts kids at risk or harms tellyowl. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first. If we close your account when you haven't broken these terms, we'll refund the unused part of your Plus period.
If we ever shut tellyowl down, we'll email you at least 30 days before and refund any unused Plus.

10. Our responsibility

We work hard to keep tellyowl running and safe, but it's provided as it is. We can't promise it will always be available or free of errors, or that every video will suit your kid.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or other consumer laws that can't be excluded.
As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for YouTube's videos or service, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and AUD 100.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email you at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep using tellyowl after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel Plus and delete your account.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria can hear disputes. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of your own country's laws that can't be contracted out of.
